1. What age were you when you joined the Artpreneur Program? Did your age make things easier or harder for you while you were in the program?
I joined the Artpreneur Program at 17-18; I think the program was a lot easier for me since I had just been out of school, I had that momentum of sitting and studying going on, and also being young meant I had lots more time on my hand and very fewer, which meant I could spend most of my time on the program.

2. What made you join the Artpreneur Program skipping a formal degree?
I had never been a fan of formal education to say, from all the things I had heard, formal education was just something you did to get a job. Which is good, but I had a whole different understanding of education. It was something I was interested in and wanted to learn; I was never sure if I wanted to do it for a job. Also, the various degrees and different curriculums offered only in design really confused me a lot, and there was no one course or degree that seemed right to me. On top of that the increasing finances of these degrees made me really uncomfortable and all this really gave me a hard time. At that point in time, I had done a course from Imagineers (a sister brand of Artpreneur) and I loved it. The teaching process, the educators, and seeing what I could do in just a weekend blew my mind. I learned about Artpreneur from there and it was really a blessing, it was one of those courses that ticked all the right boxes for me. From the curriculum to the teachers, the process, and seeing the portfolio of past students, I was just ready to join the program in two days.

3. Your branding portfolio is very intriguing. Can you tell me more about your connection to Visual Branding and how you got started in it?
Thank you, I loved branding even before I knew what it was called. I remember from a young age buying certain things because the packaging looked cool and following brands because they had this certain color I loved, though it sounds cliche, I had paid attention to these certain things and it made me feel good. Before knowing about the world of branding, I started making logos by following a YouTube channel called Logosbynick, I had learned about the software and different ways to make logos, but after a point it got me thinking about why the logo was made in that certain way, why do it like this? Is there any other way? This questioning made me research more and more and I stumbled upon this Youtube series by The Futur called, “ Building a Brand” It is a series of videos that showed a lot of behind the stage, the what, why and it just made me go crazy, I have binged watched that series more than 5 times and I still enjoyed it. I think this is where I really started to get into the world of branding and got engrossed in it.

5. Many people believe that a certificate or a degree is necessary to obtain a job. What is your opinion on the importance of certification versus having a portfolio?
I think it really depends on person to person on what their belief is. For me, I think a certificate or a degree really fails to show the passion, hard work, and time a person has spent on learning and mastering their craft, which I find to be quite important in differentiating yourself for a job. Whereas a good portfolio really covers all these points, it shows that you have taken the time and worked hard to create, it also differentiates you as no two portfolios can be the same. I feel having a degree or certificate may act as the cherry on top but having a good portfolio is very important as it makes the base.

6. Many people think young folks aren't very committed and like quick wins. So, how did you pick a program that needs a lot of commitment? Please share your tips to help other young people starting this journey
I respectfully disagree with the thought that many people think young folks aren’t very committed and like quick wins. It is more of a generalization that is not only inaccurate but unfair to a lot of young people. Yes, there are times that we may exhibit such type of behavior, but it doesn’t apply to everything we do. I feel young people nowadays experience a lot of things and numerous challenges and this at times makes us very grumpy and not so interested in everything, but when the time comes and we find that thing that really we love and are passionate about we are the most committed, hardworking and dedicated people.

I think that was the same for me when I attended the program, it was that one thing that I wanted to do no matter what and I did that and it never felt like it needed a lot of commitment, it was more of an inward push.

For tips, I would say that we as individuals have unique experiences, values, and motivations, but have a reason as to why you're doing a certain thing, if you do something knowing why you will give it the best you can.

7. What is your opinion of the Artpreneur program's claim that any amateur can master design and branding through the Program?
I acknowledge that this claim made by the program is right, but I would slightly like to tweak the claim. I feel that Artpreneur program more of ignites a fire in an amateur to strive to be a master.

I say this because being a master is an endless journey, one can never know if they are the masters, no one can decide that, and there’s always this push you feel that you can do better. This push or this hunger to do better is what I feel Artpreneur generates in you and turns you into a person who’s always striving to be better.

8. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years, we are really excited to hear it from you.
To be true, I really am not sure. I think I am at a point where I want to do everything, and my interests lie in a lot of stuff, which makes it difficult to choose one destination. Nevertheless, I am sure I will be in pursuit of one or more of my creative interests and that really excites me.

9. What was the effectiveness of the educator and mentor in the Artpreneur program?
The Educator and the mentor in the program have had a tremendous effect not only on the program but also in my life.

Firstly I would say, SCD Balaji sir, is one of the few people I am grateful to have in my life. His deep understanding of the subject matter, teaching, and mentoring style make you want to just hear him speak for hours. He is really flexible and adaptable in his teaching style and keeps you engaged in hours-long lectures. His pieces of advice are also so simple and to the point, that you question yourself why didn’t you think of that, he really clears out the fog you make up in your head.

Secondly, my co-educator, Vinodini is a kind, caring, and nurturing person who made me feel like part of her family. Her supportive and encouraging approach helped me to grow and thrive both academically and personally. She is patient, understanding, never judging or criticizing anyone, and a very down-to-earth person, I really had fun learning from her.

10. How likely are you to recommend the Artpreneur program to young people who want to become creative professionals?
I would totally recommend the program not only to young people but also to anyone who wants to be creative.

For young people, I think Artpreneur is just not a course or a degree you do to get a job, it is more of a foundation towards being creative which I feel all of us don’t really have and it's difficult to get it anywhere else. But if you are unsure about what to do, feel free do the program after you have done a degree or worked. Don’t just do it for your resume.
