Atma Studios interviewed Lakshana, they say life throws opportunities at many instances and it is up to us to grab them and make the most of it. That is how Lakshana feels about the Artpreneur Program.
1. What made you believe in the program's authenticity as the first Artpreneur student?
Honestly, I didn't think much on the terms of the topics/skills I was going to learn. I had seen the ad and the portfolio that ATMA studios had then was what inspired me to take up the course. When I visited the studio and met with Mr. SCD Balaji, I knew I was at the right place and that I was definitely going to be learning so much. It was one of those decisions that you take based on a kind of trust and surprisingly the amount of trust has only grown multi-fold. And the inspiration hasn't faded out one bit.
2. What do you do now? Can you describe your Journey after the Artpreneur Program?
I did all sorts of projects that came my way during and after the program. Eventually I discovered that branding was something I was more interested in and that it could be an area where I could develop my career. Took a break to evaluate my strengths and opportunities. Now, I run Moonroots, an online studio that helps businesses grow by providing services like Brand Identity, Packaging design, Full Branding kit, Brand Strategy etc.
3. How was your collaboration with your mentor, during and after the program?
It is one of the most purest relationships one could ever ask for. Mr. SCD Balaji as a mentor has forever been on the giving mode and I feel so grateful for being one of his mentees. He has been the same person who I had seen in 2016 and continues to inspire and guide me till date. Patience and being non-judgmental are his biggest strengths and as a mentee it has benefitted me tremendously.
4. Over the course of six years, how has the program's curriculum, standards, and portfolio evolved?
It is beautiful that every year the program is taking up a completely new course and yet the basics are still intact. The excitement is real when you see students putting out their works and when new topics are introduced in the program. I used to be so inspired by the portfolio back in 2016 and now the current portfolio just beats it all. It only gets better year after year.
The curriculum has evolved much more and seems like it has a structure to it.
5. Why not pursue a career as an artist instead of a career as a Brand Consultant? Are there any specific reasons?
I undertook the program with a desire to learn tools to make digital art and continued to learn and work on illustrations. Over a period of time, I started gaining interest in branding and identity design. I felt like my calling was in contributing to business' growth through design. I found a true sense of purpose in contributing to people's dreams. I love the fact that I can use design as a solution to tackle business challenges. For me, art is personal. I leave it to go with the flow. While, branding is a structured form of creativity. It thrills me that I can use my brains in both the strategy part and also the design part of it. Brand consulting is an art too so let me still call myself an artist.
6. What is your career aspiration and vision statement?
One of my biggest aspirations as a branding consultant is to help in the growth of as many female led businesses as I can. Moonroots would be instrumental in making sure that brands leave an impact in the market and reach the right audience. If there is one thing that I learnt in the Artpreneur program, it is the trait of being selfless and just giving all you have. With Moonroots, all I want to think about is How we can help our client's business get better and what we can provide to solve their challenges.
7. Apart from technical aspects, what have you learnt from the Artpreneur program?
I would say I've learnt much more than the technical aspects of the program. From handling clients, meeting deadlines, organizing your day to prioritizing and knowing your worth, the takeaways are just too many. Doing the program has helped me grow exponentially as a human too. In every course/program we take up, we are usually taught all the techniques and skill sets needed. The Artpreneur program is where I understood & learnt how/where to implement what I've learnt and I feel that is the best kind of education one can ever get.
8. Would you recommend the Artpreneur program to others? What would you say to people looking to join the Artpreneur program?
Hands on, Yes.
The program is structured in a way where no matter what your interests are, it'll shape you and help you in pursuing it while giving you clarity in going about with it. The whole process of the program is such that you dabble with lots of different areas of design and then choose to master one or also do all of it(They equip you for that too). It is but an ever flowing akshaya patram and the treasure trove is up to you for grabs.
