1. How did you get to know about the Artpreneur Program?
I came to know about the Artpreneur program through my friend Vasudha, who is also an Artpreneur. She recommended that I attend a one-day session on personal branding led by SCD Balaji sir. After that, I attended the two-day weekend workshops conducted by Imagineers on the Art Deco art style, instructed by Vivek. These two sessions changed my life forever.
2. What is your professional background, and have you had any prior experience in the field of art?
I did B.Tech [Hons.] in Electronics and Communication Engineering and worked in the IT industry for almost 10 years. After quitting my IT job, I engaged in hospital administration at my family-owned hospital. Later, I pursued a Diploma in Pharmacy [D.Pharm] with the intention of taking over the pharmacy business as an entrepreneur.
Before joining the Artpreneur program, I attended several classes on traditional art styles, including portrait sketching, pencil and charcoal sketching, acrylic painting, and watercolor painting.
3. With a diverse background in fields such as IT and Pharmacy, what ultimately inspired you to take a leap of faith and venture into a career in the creative realm?
From being a logical thinker and a workaholic person, I discovered my emotional and creative side during Imagineers workshops. I loved the structure of the classes and the level of energy I gained in one class itself. Upon completing the workshop, I was able to create my set of 40+ illustrations within just two months. The excitement of expressing myself through these illustrations was unparalleled. I vividly remember the surge of creative energy, producing 2-4 illustrations per day in my own unique style. These artworks captured the happy and funny moments of my life, allowing me to relive those joyous days. Despite loving the concepts and uniqueness in my illustrations, I felt they were not up to the mark due to a lack of knowledge in tools, tips, techniques, and drawing skills. That’s when I decided to join the Artpreneur program to bridge those gaps.
For me, this program is a journey of self-discovery and soul-searching. My ultimate motivation for enrolling in this program is the belief that it can transform me as an individual. I knew it could help me focus in the right direction and enable me to express myself more creatively through illustrations.
4. Reflecting on your journey from being an amateur, how would you describe your evolution in the creative field now, after the program?
Yes, I began this program as an amateur. Initially, I faced numerous constraints when creating illustrations. When visualizing, I would think big with intricate details, but due to a lack of skills, I ended up simplifying the concept during scripting and sketching. However, after completing the program, I no longer fear dreaming big, knowing that I now have the skills to bring those dreams to life.
5. How would you articulate the differences between the Artpreneur Program and other art workshops you may have attended?
I attended both in-person and online art classes before, but they mainly involved following instructions to recreate something that’s already there. The prevailing belief is that creativity cannot be taught, but the Artpreneur program challenges and breaks that notion which is the best part. Here, we were not just taught, but guided on how to explore and master any art form, how to tap into and translate our thoughts into scripts, visualize them, and create our own unique illustrations while adhering to the standards of each particular art form. As our mentor, SCD Balaji sir, often emphasizes, we were taught how to steal the core of art and master it.
6. Transitioning from a technical background to a creative career, what challenges did you encounter when starting out in art, and how did you effectively navigate them?
The initial stages were quite challenging for me. I encountered difficulties in various aspects, including visualizing, scripting, sketching, and color blocking. However, my love for challenges and hate for giving up propelled me forward. Successfully completing this program became my topmost priority. I made a personal commitment to never let my sadhana completion percentage drop below 80%. I pushed myself to finish every sadhana assigned to me during the program, and this consistent practice proved instrumental in my gradual improvement. I observed the magical enhancement in the quality of my work by diligently following the process.
7. Can you share one key insight or takeaway from the program that has significantly impacted your personal and professional life?
The Artpreneur program has provided numerous takeaways, making it challenging to narrow down to just one. However, my topmost takeaway is learning how to tune my subconscious mind to achieve my desires and needs. This fundamental aspect has been subtly taught throughout the program, and I believe it underlies everything I've gained. I am applying this knowledge in my personal life for self-healing and in my professional life to transcend all barriers.
8. How instrumental were the mentorship provided by the educator in shaping your journey in the creative field?
Shruti and Anisha were my educators, and I am grateful for the blessing of their mentorship. Their wisdom, commitment, discipline, uncompromising nature when it comes to art, inquisitive learning approach, professionalism, guidance, tips and techniques have been true inspirations, keeping me motivated throughout the program. They have set benchmarks for me to carry forward, both in my life and career.
9. Envisioning the future, where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
I envision myself as a successful illustrator, having mastered at different art forms. I aspire to create and sell my own illustrations online, focusing primarily on merchandise under my studio name, Anaathi.
10. Considering your experience, how likely are you to recommend the Artpreneur program to individuals who aspire to enter the creative field as amateurs?
At some point, I honestly thought that I should consider the idea of repeating the program after a few years due to its dynamic nature. I would willingly sit as a silent audience in every batch. Therefore, I highly recommend the Artpreneur program to anyone pursuing a career in the creative field. A gem like this is hard to find.
